Algebra (6 sessions – £60) An online, tutor-led small group short course for home educated / homeschooling students

Course Summary: In this topic we will delve deeper into the world of letters and numbers: algebra. We will build on prior knowledge of basic algebra and look at solving more complicated linear equations and quadratics. We will apply all our algebra skills to well-known formulas where we will look at how to change the subject of a formula. Finally, we will learn how to solve two equations simultaneously. There will be plenty of opportunity to practice and embed the knowledge using a variety of activities to promote mathematical reasoning as well as reviewing prior learning. Learners should have a solid foundation in lower KS3 maths before enrolling in this course, as this course is an advanced KS3 level course. This course is one in a series of 5 short courses covering upper KS3/Year 9 material, that can be used as stand-alone courses or combined form an excellent foundation before embarking on Higher GCSE / IGCSEs. All courses in the series use a variety of activities to embed the skills, check understanding and promote mathematical thinking. And, optional extra challenges will be made available for those wanting to stretch themselves. This course is also part of the “Upper KS3 Mathematics Curriculum Program”, a combined package of all 5 courses of the series.
