Terms and conditions

Course Terms and Conditions
Data Protection:

Your data will be collected for the following reasons:

  • to inform you about business changes; course changes
  • to communicate directly with you about the course(s) you have signed up for
  • to tailor and deliver the course you have requested
  • to inform you about future courses

Your data will never be made available to any third party, organisation or any other body.

You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to remove any records of your data, at any time (please note that if you do so whilst the course is still underway, it will impact our ability to deliver the course and communicate with you about the course).

By paying an invoice, you are indicating that you have read and understood our data protection policy.

If, for any reason: your LA needs or requests information from us about your young person’s progress in the course (only with your knowledge/approval); you would like a Certificate of Completion for the course; you would like predicted grades, please ensure the following: i)their Canvas account uses their correct individual name and ii) they send along all of the completed activities and assignments for the course, to the course tutor, on a timely basis.

International students:   Courses are open to International students; students will need to confirm themselves which boards their local exam centre covers.

On-line course delivery platform:   Online courses use an easy to learn platform called Canvas.   This hosting platform allows course communications to be managed in an easy, accessible, intuitive manner.  This software is available for students to use, for free.  Courses also use Zoom to host ‘live’ sessions and YouTube to host proprietary recordings.  Occasionally, due to circumstances beyond our control, these platforms may be unavailable due to host site maintenance, etc.

Course materials:   Online access means 24/7 access to the course environment (weekly lesson plans, supporting pdfs, background resources, etc.) unless there is an issue with the learning platform which is out of the tutor’s control.    If, due to circumstances beyond our control, learning platforms are unavailable due to host site maintenance, etc.  for a period of more than 5 business days, alternate platforms/communications channels will be used until the technical issues are resolved. We reserve the right to change the course materials, platform, course package and pricing at our discretion and without prior notice.

Digital content: After making partial or full payment of your invoice, if you enrol in a course on the online learning platform or access course materials within 14 days of that purchase (any initial or full payment) you are explicitly giving your consent to waive the 14-day cooling-off period.  If you wish to retain your cancellation rights for a 14-day cooling off period, then you must not enrol in a course during that timeframe (14 days after payment).    By paying an invoice and then enrolling in a course using your enrolment link, you are explicitly consenting to waive the 14-day cooling-off period.

Tutor availability:  The course tutor is available by email for parental communications.  You can expect business hours responses, within 48 hours of your message being sent.  This means Monday to Friday, 9am – 6pm.  Generally, you can expect responses will be earlier than this.  You are of course always free to ring, but please do be patient if it goes to voicemail.  The tutor will follow school holiday dates and will not (usually) be online during school holidays.

Parental Supervision:  Course material may contain sensitive subject information and links to external websites;  parents are encouraged to review information with, or in advance of, the student reviewing it, if they have any concerns.

Every effort has been made to ensure that multi-media content that is included as part of the course detail, to provide relevant/timely/real-world examples and support, is acceptable to anyone over age 14.

If the student you are enrolling is under 14, it is suggested that you view the material with the student (or in advance) as there may be content you wish them to miss or you wish to discuss with them.   Examples might be:  videos including mildly inappropriate wording (ie. “When my new idea failed, it sucked”) or topical content (ie. newspaper articles which may have videos embedded of news events your child may not be aware of, such as the passenger being removed physically off a United Airlines plane).   Again, the tutor makes every attempt to view material first and personally gauge its appropriateness;  in addition, the relevance of the material is weighed against any negatives.  If you have any concerns, please do review all course materials in advance of your child doing so.

Recommendation Reward Program: As a “thank-you” for recommending HomeMadeEducation to your friends and fellow home educators, for each paid referral who names you as the recommender, you receive a £15 Amazon gift voucher (equal to approx. 7% of a course fee).   There is no limit to the number of referral rewards you can claim. (One referral friend only, per enrolment)

Fees:     Fees are specified within a detailed invoice sent to each parent at the start of the course.  If paying by instalments, you agree (and are legally liable) to pay all instalments.  Exam booking and exam costs are not covered within course fees.  Parents have the responsibility of securing and paying for exam spaces, if relevant.

When paying course fees, upon receipt of an invoice, you are explicitly agreeing to these terms and conditions.
